Our Thermoplastic Road Marking Paint is precisely formulated to meet BS 3262:2002 requirements. Comprising high-grade C5 resin, EVA copolymer, calibrated glass beads and UV-stable pigments, it melts at 160–200 °C and bonds deeply to asphalt or concrete. Once set (in 1–3 minutes), it forms a thick, abrasion-resistant film that withstands heavy traffic, fuel spillage, freeze-thaw cycles and extreme temperatures (–40 °C to +80 °C). Its retroreflectivity (> 300 mcd·m⁻²·lx⁻¹) and skid resistance exceed BS 3262 thresholds, ensuring compliance and road safety in parking areas, highways, roundabouts and airport aprons.

BS 3262 Standard Overview
The BS 3262 standard is a British Standard that specifies the requirements for thermoplastic road marking materials used on roads and highways in the UK. The standard defines the acceptable components of thermoplastic road marking paint, including binders, pigments, fillers, and glass beads.
Application Requirements:
- The material must be hot-applied (usually at approximately 180°C).
- Suitable for application by screed, spray, or extrusion methods.
Performance Criteria:
- Skid resistance
- Retroreflectivity (when mixed with reflective glass beads)
- Durability (resistance to wear and weather)
- Color retention (typically white or yellow)
Temperature & Flow Behavior:
Specifies the softening point, flow resistance, and heat stability of the product.
Environmental & Safety Standards:
Ensures that the material is non-toxic and safe for road workers and the environment.
Benefits of Conforming to BS 3262:
- Road markings are highly visible
- Extended service life under heavy traffic
- Improved road safety, especially in night or wet conditions
Applicable Regions:
The BS 3262 standard is widely recognized and adopted in the following countries and regions for thermoplastic road marking materials:
- United Kingdom (UK)
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates (UAE), including Dubai and Abu Dhabi
- Kuwait
- Qatar
- Bahrain
- Oman
- Jordan
- Iraq
- Yemen
- Egypt
- South Africa (on specific projects)
- Pakistan (British standard projects)
- Bangladesh (government and export-oriented roads)
- Former British colonies or Commonwealth countries with legacy specifications
Standard Equivalency:
The BS 3262 specification partially overlaps with the European standards EN 1436 and EN 1871.
While EN 1436 focuses on performance requirements such as retroreflectivity, color, and skid resistance, and EN 1871 defines the physical and chemical properties of road marking materials, BS 3262 emphasizes:
- Thermal stability during heating and application
- Resistance to discoloration and degradation at high temperatures
- Flow behavior at elevated temperatures
- Durable retroreflectivity through premixed and surface glass beads
Therefore, BS 3262 is especially preferred in hot-climate and desert regions where thermoplastic markings must endure high temperatures and UV exposure without deformation or fading.
Typically 4–6 years in urban highways and 3–5 years in high-traffic zones before significant maintenance is needed.
Yes, we offer custom shades and adjustable bead percentages (20–30 %) to meet specific reflectivity requirements.
